Half Sovereigns For Sale

Due to the First World War, the government began issuing paper note for one pound and ten shillings. This meant, although half sovereigns were minted under his reign, only a few were used as actual currency. The Royal Mint ceased production on sovereigns after the 1915 sovereign was struck. However, late dates were still issued at alternative minting branches in Melbourne, Syndey, Perth and Pretoria in South Africa. Pretoria last struck half sovereign gold coins in 1926.

Please note that 1917, 1921, 1922, and 1924 do not exist. 1923 was minted only as a proof. Half sovereigns for the years 1919 and 1920, according to Michael A. Marsh are said to have been minted at The Perth Mint branch. However, although there are records stating the mintage it is unknown if any have been seen. The Spink Catalogue do not list these dates.
