2009-2011 Countdown to the London 2012 Gold Proof Five Pound Crowns

The Royal Mint released a £5 crown to countdown to the games. Each coin has a unique design displaying the number representing the amount of years to the start of London 2012, designed in harmony with an image of an Olympic sport. This coin will incorporate the Olympic rings and the London 2012 logo. It also shows the logo appearing in full colour.

They were released in 2009 , 2010 and 2011 .

This is the official £5 to mark the Olympic games. The coin features the London skyline and the River Thames within the central circle, the buildings depicted in the dkyline include Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, the Gherkin, St Paul’s Cathedral, the London Eye and the Tower of London, with London 2012 arching above. The outer ring of the design features images representing various Olympic sports.
