Brief History The Netherlands Antilles, or the Dutch West Indies, are two groups of islands in the West Indies discovered in 1499 by Alonso de Ojeda of Spain. Mainly under Dutch influence since 1634, it now has domestic autonomy. The capital is Willemstad on the island of Curaçao.
Gold Coins
The first coins struck specifically for the Netherlands Antilles or its constituent parts were in 1816, before then there were only a small number of countermarks on coins of other countries. Most of its coins have been closely modelled on similar Netherlands coins, except for the coat of arms on the shield. This shows six stars, and on a scroll beneath it appears the inscription:-

The first gold coins of Netherlands Antilles were issued in 1976. They are demoninated in Gulden or Guilders.
The 50 Guilders coins of 1979 have a portrait of Queen Juliana of the Netherlands on the obverse, with the inscription:-

The reverse design shows the coats of arms of the Netherlands and of Netherlands Antilles in shields, side by side, with a crown above, with the inscription:-
