Guernsey Gold Non-Legal Tender Coins
In the short time for which Guernsey had been issuing gold coins, it has made a wide variety of denominations. First in 1981 was a pound coin, similar in dimensions to a British sovereign. Please see our main Guernsey page for more information.
Design
"Unlike most world coinage that features the current head of state. The States of Guernsey used the ancient seal of Kind Edward 1 given to the island in 1279. What featured on the double coins above the seal was Guernsey in French, the legal and everyday language of the island at that time."
Medallic Replicas?
A customer recently enquired about the technical specifications that we had listed for the Guernsey 1 Doubles. This led us to do some investigations. The 1, 2 and 8 Doubles were originally issued in bronze and these were legal tender coins. The gold Doubles, however, are not legal tender so technically they should not be classed as coins. They could be described as medallic replicas.Postage & Packing
