This year's coins have a special design, which we believe may be for one year only. The last time this occurred, no bullion version coins were released.Obverse
Fourth PortraitFrom 1998, as with all British coins, the obverse design changed to the "fourth portrait", showing a more mature likeness of The Queen.
Reverse
The reverse type for 2001 is new. Having heard a description in advance of seeing the coins, we were at first slightly disappointed when we got our first look at the actual design, however it has grown on us. Britannia is shown standing, accompanied by a lion, similar to the Una and the Lion reverse used on the very rare 1839 £5 gold coins2001 Bullion Britannias
