Gold Britannias were first issued in 1987, including proofs. Britannia proof sets have been issued every year since 1987.
From 1990, the mintage for the 4 coin sets has been very low. As shown in our table below, the issue limit for the 1993 set was only 500, out of which only 462 were issued, making this date of Britannia proof set a low mintage, as with a number of these sets.
For the patient collector, many of the older sets which we offer represent a very good deal as they are at considerable savings compared with the current year's set direct from the Royal Mint.
Medallion This year's set contains a gold plated medallion with "Elizabeth R" and the date topped by a large crown, while the reverse design is a cockerel, the Chinese lunar calendar symbol of the year. For our American friends, that's a rooster!
Presentation Box The 1991 gold proof Britannia set was issued in a square black box as shown.
