Certificate?
These coins comes with a small piece of paper which describes itself as a certificate of authenticity.
The piece of paper isn't large enough or soft enough for a better purpose
The diameter stated on the certificates is "11 mm (Approx .5 in.)". We are glad it says "Approx" as 0.5 inches equals about 12 mms, therefore the diameter in Imperial measure is overstated by 9%, which is quite a large tolerance, even for something marked as approximate.
We measured it to be 11.2 mms.
It states it to be of .999 gold,
Interestingly, the "certificates" do not bear the name or other contact details of its issuer, although there is a shield logo. Whoever had the gall to issue these coins, or promote them, obviously decided discretion was the better part of valour when it came to owning up, and putting their name on the certificate.
eBay Conmen
Although we don't have a high opinion of the coins, or of the people who originally issued them, we have an even lower opinion of the numerous people who flog these these things on eBay as miniature Krugerrands, and assorted other dodgy descriptions.

MDM Shield
We received the following informative e-mail from a German reader:
Hello,
I just found your site and your writing about the 'Worlds smallest Gold Coins'.
Not sure if it is of interest to you but perhaps you could add it to your description to warn unknowing buyers.
The shield logo belongs to the German company MDM Münzhandelsgesellschaft MBH Deutsche Münze. They sell these little bastards for prices around 80-100 Euro.
They are also circulating as 'Kostbarkeiten in Gold' from the same company.
Our Grandpa bought around twenty as heritage for the grand children.
I personally think these things are great as a gift for 5 year old children on a birthday party, "Your first own GOLD COIN!!!!!" but should be banned from the legal market.
Best regards
