Dodgy Certificates

2002 Queen Mother with Princess Diana at Prince William's Christening
It's not the first time we have encountered a Westminster Collection certificate with errors in it, in fact, it's becoming quite a common occurrence.
This one states the weight to be "28.28g", which we assume to mean grams. The coin actually weighs 31.053 grams. We guess somebody at Westminster worked out that the coin weighed one ounce, or contained one ounce of gold, or was supposed to, and then converted it into grams, forgetting (or not knowing) that when one is dealing with precious metals, it is always understood that all ounces are troy ounces not avoirdupois ounces. We notice this type of error and inaccuracy quite often in material from Westminster, leading us to believe that most if not all of their personnel know very little if anything about coins, collecting, gold, precious metals, or much else. However it is difficult not to respect their marketing abilities, even if we do not admire them.

2002 Duke of Wellington & Britannia Gold Medal Approximately correct.
