Brief Historical Notes The R.S.F.S.R., the socialist state of Russia, came into being after the October Revolution of 1917. It remained an independent socialist state until 1923, when it became a nation of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. It's initial in Russian are PCOCP, which we will not attempt to expand, partially because we do not have cyrillic script installed on our computer. Russian history around this time appears somewhat confused and confusing, but the USSR was formed on December 30, 1922 and remained a constituent member of the USSR until 1991.
Chervonetz
The only denomination of gold coin issued by the RSFSR was the 10 roubles as shown in our photographs. These are known as chervonetz.
There were three different issues, the original in 1923, a second issue under the USSR (CCCP) in 1925, all but one are thought to have been melted, and a third issue from 1975 to 1982. Only coins of this third type can be commonly found.
