Italian 100 Lire Gold Coins
Italy has issued 100 lire gold coins from 1864 through to 1940.This page lists the specifications, and any coins we have for sale.

1943 Mussolini Pattern
The coin we have shown in our photographs claims to be a 100 lire, and has a reverse design identical to that of a genuine 100 lire of 1923, issued for the first anniversary of the Fascist Movement. However, the obverse bears a portrait of Benito Mussolini, and the legend:
MUSSOLINI MCMXLIII (1943)
Mussolini was born on 29th July 1883, and died on 28th April 1945. He was overthrown in 1943.
This piece is unlisted in Krause, but forgeries exist of the 1923 coins, which are otherwise quite scarce with a mintage of 20,000, and catalogue at $3,500 in Uncirculated. We presume that our coin in a fantasy piece, perhaps an unofficial pattern.
