Brief History
Napoleon Bonaparte exerted direct influence in at least three different areas of Italy
, which before 1861 consisted of many small states, kingdoms, and duchies. This makes the period more interesting for historians and coin collectors alike.
The "Kingdom of Napoleon" came into existence from shortly after 18th May 1804, being an extension of the Italian Republic formed in 1802 from the Cisalpine Republic, and with its capital in Milan.
Napoleon' coronation as King of Italy took place in Naples on 26th May 1805.
His brother-in-law Joachim also appeared as the "King of Naples" in 1813.
