Worthy Causes or Pure Marketing?
Some multi-national coin issues and collections have been coordinated by organisations such as UNICEF or the Save the Children Fund, for worthy causes. Other issues seem to us like pure and simple opportunistic marketing, often coordinated by one or more mints, or other coin marketing companies.
While we usually avoid any involvement in the new distribution of such issues, we make an active secondary market in them,
When new, these issues are normally sold at high premiums compared with their intrinsic value, often double or more. In the secondary market, we can often supply them at much more competitive prices, usually ranging from about 5% up to about 50% premium over gold, depending on a number of factors such as condition, mintage, scarcity, supply and demand, and our actual stock position.
While we would not recommend investors to buy these collections at new prices, they can often be interesting additions to a collection, and at our "second-hand" prices, can also be acquired at an investment price.
