Single Date Type Some coin designs were only issued for a single year, such designs are usually scarcer, and harder for collectors to find, because they normally have a lower mintage than other types which were produced for longer periods of time. Type collectors and date collectors alike need the same date to fill the space in their collections. It follows that demand is high and supply is low, usually leading to higher prices.

Description
Coins of this type were only issued in 1852. They show a bare-headed portrait of Louis, with the inscription "LOUIS-NAPOLEON BONAPARTE". The engravers name BARRE is below the head.The reverse design consists of the value "20 FRANCS" and the date "1852" in three lines surrounded by a laurel wreath. Around the outside of the wreath is the inscription "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAIS". The mintmark "A" appears below the wreath.
The edge is inscribed in raised lettering "DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE".
