2002 was a special year for new coin issues with the launch of the euro, and in Britain with the Queen's Golden Jubilee. 2003 promises to be an interesting year also for gold coin collectors.The main British event this year will be the 50th anniversary of the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, but there will be other issues, some of which have now become a regular annual event.
- Sovereigns , and the sovereign series, including half sovereigns , two pounds, and five pounds. These revert to the traditional St. George and Dragon reverse.
- The Coronation Jubilee Crown . With a face value of £5 (five pounds), this will be issued in base metal, silver proof, and gold proof versions.
- Special gold proof £2 to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the double helix discovery of DNA.
- Gold proof version of the fifty pence to commemorate the centenary of the WSPU suffragette movement which lead to votes for women.
- The 3 coin gold sovereign proof set contains the gold version of the commemorative DNA £2 coin.
- But all four of the coin in the 4 coin set sovereign set are of the St. George & Dragon design.
- Britannia Proof Sets of all 4 weights . This year's Britannias have a very attractive new design.
- Britannia Proof Sets of the 3 smaller weights . New this year.
- 2003 Proof Quarter Ounce Britannias . A good alternative to the proof sovereign.
- 2003 Proof Tenth Ounce Britannias .
