From 1923, when her royal life began as the newly married Duchess of York, the Queen Mother has spent a lifetime of extraordinary public service, including sixteen full and dramatic years as Queen Consort to King George VI, fulfilling that awesometask with naturalgraceand charm. Indeed her warmth and unwavering sense of duty have won her the affection and respect of countless millions across the world.
A studio photograph, taken shortly after the Coronation in 1937, has been provided the theme for the reverse of this commemorative gold Proof coin for the Cook Islands, modelled by Geoffrey Colley. It shows a delightful group portrait of the new Queen and her two young daughters, the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret.
