1990 Falkland Islands Gold Proof Coin Sets - Queen Mother's 90th Birthday
The Royal Mint was authorised by the Falklands Islands Government to issue a limited number of four-coin Gold Proof Collections to celebrate the 90th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother on 4th August 1900. This was the first Gold Proof Collection issued for the Falkland Islands since 1974.
Struck in denominations of £100, £50, £25, and £10, all the coins in this collection are legal tender.
The reverse of the £100 and £25 coins, modelled by Robert Elderton, features a cameo of the Queen Mother encircled by two intertwined strings of pearls and surrounded by a decorative arrangement of Pale Maiden (Sysyrinchium Filifolium), a flower indigenous to the Falkland ISlands.
The reverse of the £50 and £10 coins, modelled by Jane Mc.Adam, features the Queen Mother's Coat of Arms.
The obverse of each of the coins bears Raphael Maklouf's elegant portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
