A large gold medallion, issued to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the United Nations Organisation (U.N.O.) in 1945.
Initially, the body was known as the United Nations Organization, or UNO. However, by the 1950s, English speakers were referring to it as the United Nations, or the UN.
It seems clear from this medallion that the original name and acronym were still in popular or general use.
Obverse
In the centre, a convex half-globe of the world. The outer circle carries a legend (inscription) in three languages, English, French, and German:
PEACE ON THE WORLD
PAIX DANS LE MONDE
FRIEDEN AUF ERDEN
Beneath this, there is a maker's mark SP, and a fineness (.999).
Reverse

In Geneva, on the left half of the medal, with the words 25 YEARS UNO 1945 - 1970, in three lines above, the word GENÈVE BELOW.
There is also a serial number (021 on the medal in our photograph).
On the right hand side, the UN building in New York, with the words NEW YORK above.
