1966 British Prime Ministers Gold Medallions Collection
This impressive set of gold medals or medallions was issued in 1966 by Feuchtwanger of London, and Medallioners, honouring great prime ministers of Great Britain.
These medallions usually come in a fitted leather box.
For photographs of the other medallions, please see the individual pages linked below.

Description
Each medal features a portrait of the respective prime minister, with his name and dates of birth and death, each with the engravers initial S.D. The reverse of each medallion is identical, and shows a crowned portcullis with the inscription "PRIME MINISTER OF GREAT BRITAIN", and a hallmark showing it to be 22 carat gold, with the sponsor's mark A.G.B., from the London Assay office.
The inner lid of the box is signed "Medallioners Limited", and states the designers to be Gerald Benney (presumably A.G.B.), and Stuart Devlin.

Investment & Value
One of the sets of these medallions came with its original advert. You can see that the original price was £360 per set. As gold was only about £12 per troy ounce at the time, this means the original selling price was about 3 times the value of the gold content, or about 200% premium. Although this makes the original price of these sets very expensive, people flocked to buy them, partially because Exchange Control Regulations made it very difficult for British residents to buy gold.
Although the original price was ridiculously high, especially if considered as an investment, nevertheless an original buyer would be able to realise a substantial profit from owning a set.
Our price for these medallions, as discussed below ranges between 10% to 50% premium, making them an absolute bargain bought from us compared with the original purchase price.
These considerations of investment value do not take into account the pleasure which can be derived from owning a piece of numismatic and sculptural art.

Prices & Availability
We are always happy to buy and sell gold medals and medallions. Prices fluctuate according to a number of factors including gold bullion prices, condition, supply and demand. Please contact us if there is a gold medallion you wish to buy or sell.
Currently we would ask 50% premium over gold for a single medallion, as this would entail us splitting a set. For a complete set, we would be happy to accept 5% premium over spot gold.
