Switzerland were on of the few countries to issue any gold coins in 1949. We usually have some in stock.
Every day people ask us for coins which do not exist, including 1949 sovereigns and half sovereigns.
Half sovereigns were not issued in every year, and this is one date for which none were issued.
Most countries were still struggling to recover from the economic effects of World War II, and were desperately trying to retain or rebuild their gold reserves.
