Eagles & Half Eagles
The USA is a relatively young country, and its first regular issue of gold coins started in 1795. Although most of them have an eagle as a major part of their design, for some reason the $10 piece acquired the name eagle , and the other sizes as double eagles , half eagles, and quarter eagles .
The original US quarter eagles had a face value of two and a half dollars. Please don't confuse them with the modern quarter ounce gold bullion eagles .

Notes on Table
Diameter = Diameter in millimetres.
Weight = Gross weight in grams.
Fineness = purity of gold alloy.
Gold Content = Actual gold content in troy ounces.

We recently bought a couple of quarter eagles that have been graded and slabbed by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation of America.

This particular coin has been graded AU 58 using the American grading system. This makes it almost uncirculated.
