1974 Krugerrand 1oz Fine Gold
A 1974 1oz Gold Krugerrand. It is not in mint condition, it has a few tiny nicks around the edge which considering the age of the coin isn't too bad. I will only accept Pay Pal (sic) for payments and I will only post the coin when the transaction has cleared. If you have any questions please get in touch with me and I will endeavor (sic) to answer them.
What's Wrong?
We invest a great deal of time, effort, and cost into creating some of the best photographic coin images on the internet. We strongly object when lazy and dishonest people decide to use them without a by your leave or thanks, doing so in competition with us.
Copyright theft is dishonest. We recommend you avoid doing business with dishonest dealers.
This particular eBay seller not only stole our image of the reverse of a 1974 Krugerrand, she used it to sell her own coin on eBay.
She did not bother to tell buyers it was not the same coin as she was hawking.
It's possible she is ignorant of such fine points, or just plain ignorant.
It is always possible, even likely, that sellers who steal photographs do not own a similar coin, and have the intention to totally defraud potential buyers.
The vendor is not only cheating us by stealing our copyright images, he is fraudulently or ignorantly misleading and deceiving all potential buyers. Gaining pecuniary advantage by deception is the definition of fraud.
Price
The seller was asking a starting price of £500 for his coin, which drew a top bid of £660.
He would probably have got more by selling to us when eBay's new 10% selling fees are taken into account, even ignoring PayPal fees, or spending it.
Similarly, the buyer could probably get a better deal buying direct from a reputable dealer, such as us, not some dishonest eBayer who might or might not even possess a Krugerrand. Bidders might be better off spending their money in a betting shop, or online gambling site than buying high value gold bullion on eBay.

Copyright Thieves on eBay We already have a page naming and shaming dealers using our images without permission. It's time we did the same for eBay, although if we include them all, this could be a very long page.
