Austrian 100 Schillings
Hundred schillings were issued in gold from 1926 to 1938. The first issue was from 1926 to 1934, and these were a circulation or bullion issue of the type we have illustrated. From 1935 to 1938, a second type issued in smaller quantities had as the reverse design, the "Madonna of Maria Zell".

Hammer & Sickle Although we know that Austria was an independent republic from 1914 to 1938, we do not know why the eagle on the first type 100 schillings was shown holding a hammer and sickle, a communist symbol. If any of our readers knows why, please don't hesitate to share your knowledge with us.
