We have always been able to offer the proof sovereign at significant discount to The Royal Mint (and many of our competitors) as we are happy to pass any trade discount on to our customers. In recent years the trade discount has been reduced and The Royal Mint's selling terms are becoming more and more one-sided but we are pleased to say that once again for 2014 we can still offer a discount of £25 on the official Royal Mint issue price. (Comparison on 23/12/2013).
Just 5 weeks after we bought our proof sovereigns, The Royal Mint have reduced their price from £450 to £390. We have reduced our price accordingly and at £375 are offering a £15 discount, but we are now making a loss on them. As you can imagine, not only customers who purchased theirs at the higher price, but also dealers like us, are not happy with this news.
If The Royal Mint continue to drop their prices to amounts equal to, or lower than the trade prices, we may need to stop stocking Royal Mint products, as there will be no need to, and customers may as well go directly to the mint. If this happens, The Royal Mint will no longer have any competition and with a complete monopoly over the market, will be able to increase their prices to over-inflated amounts once more, with no option for customers to purchase from elsewhere.
For more information please see our blog post here.
We will always offer a discount on these coins, compared with buying direct from The Royal Mint. If we can not offer a substantial saving we will not stock them.
Buying from us you also get the benefit of buying from expert professional numismatists who have been in the business for over 40 years. While we appreciate the Royal Mint have existed for longer, we know more about sovereigns and half sovereigns than they do!
The issue limit for the 2014 proof sovereign is 7,500 in the 'limited edition presentation' i.e. individually in a box.

We still believe that older proof sovereigns represent much better value, but obviously many collectors prefer to have one of each date or the date 2014 may be of importance for births, birthdays, or other celebrations.
Update - May 2014: The 2014 Uncirculated Sovereigns are back in stock.
* Please note this is £2.00 when purchased with a sovereign only. The regular price for the boxes is £3.00.
The Royal Mint are producing their own packaging for a 2014 Brilliant Uncirclated Sovereign, and marketing this as a different product from the 2014 Bullion Sovereign. Currently (23rd December 2013) to purchase this from the Royal Mint, would cost you ?134 more than to purchase the bullion sovereign from ourselves. You may want to purchase their uncirculated coin just for the packaging, but we would suggest that you save your money and treat yourself to some silver Britannias instead!*
