2012 London Olympics Gold Series - Faster, Higher, Stronger Complete Collection
This is the 9 Coin Complete Gold Series Collection, celebrating the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. These are the only UK coins to feature the official Olympic Rings.
The coins were designed by renowned sculptor, John Bergdahl. Designs for the three £100 one-ounce and six £25 quarter-ounce coins are inspired by the Olympic motto ‘Citius, Altius, Fortius’, Latin for Faster, Higher, Stronger.
According to the Royal Mint website:
"Each individual coin features a Roman god and an Olympic sport. ‘Faster’ pairs the god Neptune with Sailing, Diana with Cycling and Mercury with Running. ‘Higher’ shows the god Jupiter with the sport of Diving, Apollo with Gymnastics and Juno with Pole Vaulting. ‘Stronger’ features the god Mars with Boxing, Vulcan with Hammer-throwing and Minerva with Javelin. The obverse features the classic portrait of The Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS."
The set comes in a walnut-veneer case with full-colour booklets.
Issue Limit
The set has a mintage of 1,000 in 'limited edition presentation', meaning the 9 coins presented together as a set.
Selling Price
At the time of writing this page, a set was being sold on eBay for $19,999.95 - about £13,000. The issue price of the set was £10,500, so we think that is an unrealistic amount to ask for it. Just because the seller is asking for that amount, doesn't mean they'll actually sell it for that. Anyone who would pay that price would be crazy to do so!
