In 1996 Bermuda issued a proof 2-coin gold & silver set featuring triangular coins of $30 and $9 denominations.
Triangular?
The three sides of each are not straight as would be expected in a proper triangle, but have convex curved sides, which may make the shape an equilateral curve triangle.
Appropriately, the coin denominations (face values) are divisible by three at 30 dollars for the gold coin, and a very unusual 9 dollars for the silver coin.
Three Year Series According to the certificates which accompany the coins, these were the first in a three-year series of triangular coins. We have yet to see or own either of the other two sets.
Designs
The pair of coins in this first year are modelled by Royal Mint engraver Robert Elderton, and feature a sketch of the Bermudian archipelago with a compass rose above a sixteenth-century caravel, rigged for full sail. The triangular design theme is bordered by a single rope with an overhand knot in each corner, and the name BERMUDA below.
The obverse features the Maklouf portrait of the Queen, with the legend:
