1995 Alderney VE Day Anniversary Gold £1 Proof Coin The 1995 Alderney gold £1 proof coin is similar in diameter to a gold sovereign, but is over twice the weight.
1945 - 1995 VE Day Anniversary
Alderney as occupied by German forces from mid 1940, and was not liberated until 16th May 1945, the islanders returning home on 15th December that year.
The reverse, which was designed by William Vis, comprises a VE monogram superimposed on a stylised dove which is holding a laurel wreath in it beak. The legend reads:
