Jersey's First Gold Pound
In 1981 Jersey issued its first gold proof pound coin, with a mintage of 5,000 pieces, to commemorate the bicentenary of the Battle of Jersey, which took place in 1781, when the French, under Baron de Rullecour, invaded the island and reached the capital, St. Helier.
Major Peirson rallied the militia and garrison forces, and proceeded to rout the French into surrender.

Length & Width = Length & Width in millimetres.
Weight = Weight in grams.
Alloy = Fineness of gold.
AGW = Actual Gold Weight in troy ounces of pure gold.
Short Measure? The certificate which accompanies the coin states that the coin measures 25.4 mm across the flats. We disagree with this measurement, getting it to 24.5 mm. We did only measure using an ordinary ruler, not a millimetre gauge, but believe that somebody at the mint has transposed the dimensions when writing the specifications for the certificate. Across the rounded corners, the coin measures 29 mms.
