1973 Royal Wedding Stamps in Gold & Silver
In 1973, the British Post Office issued a pair of postage stamps to celebrate and commemorate the Royal Wedding on the 14th November that year, of Princess Anne to Captain Mark Philips.
Hallmark Replicas, with the permission and co-operation of the Post Office, issued a pair medallic replica stamps, a 20 p in 22 carat gold and 3 / 2 p in sterling silver. These were probably struck by the Royal Mint in London.
These medallions reproduce the design of the special commemorative stamps. Each has portraits of the happy and smiling couple, with a small cameo portrait of the Queen in the top right hand corner. Along the left lower edge is the wedding date "14 November 1973", and at the lower right is the stamps face value.
Apart from the different denominational values, the two medallic stamps have the same designs.
