Five Pounds History
The first gold quintuple sovereign (£5 coin), was issued in 1820, and is considered by some to be be a pattern coin. In 1826 and 1839, proofs were issued as part of complete proof coin sets, and this also occurred in 1902, 1911, and 1937.
Only in 1839, 1893, and 1902 were ordinary circulation types issued in addition to proof versions.

Reverse The reverse features Benedetto Pistrucci's magnificent design of St. George on horseback slaying the dragon, first used on gold sovereigns of George III in 1817.
Photographs We have never owned an 1820 Gold Five Pound, therefore until we do we will feature an 1820 sovereign.
